About This Web Site

This web site was created by Mark Valco, a former student at Thornton Fractional South High School in Lansing, Illinois. I attended "TF South" from 1967 to 1971. My motivation for creating this site was solely nastalgic. If any one feels that his or her privacy was violated, please let me know at spiralblue@yahoo.com. I will gladly remove that student's name and photo from the website. It is assumed that the only persons interested in this site are former students of T.F. South around the same time period. It is hoped that someday students included in this website will contribute updates about themselves. If you have any updates that you wish to share, please email them to spiralblue@yahoo.com. I will create a link from your mug shot page. You may even submit updated photos if you wish.

This website has most of the yearbook but not all. Some separator pages are missing, and some pages containing cooks and janitors. In retrospect I wish I had included them. This site consists of over 4000 separate files and took me over two months to create.* My goal was to make it easy to find students' photos, so I manually retyped all the text on all the pages, and re-created the large index with over 2555 names and over 4000 links to photos. Some spelling and typographical errors still exist. Some of these errors are my own errors, but some are also the fault of the original editors of the © 1971 POSTSCRIPT. If you were like me, you may have made the decision not to buy the yearbook simply because you were too young to understand that you may someday regret not having a copy of those precious memories. No copyrights were infringed upon by the publication of this website, as I am sure that 40 years is long enough to be considered public domain. Even Classmates.com is now offering yearbooks online, but when you visit those yearbooks, they merely offer each page as a graphic, and they are at the mercy of viewers tagging names. On this website, all of the tagging has already been done. In most cases, you can just hover your mouse over a face to see the student's name. This has been available on the internet since November 2004. My intention was to provide this info to former students who may have lost their yearbooks or never purchased one over 42 years ago. I assume that other former students would appreciate such a site. To date, all feedback has been positive. In fact, I have not heard a single complaint in nearly nine years.

   * While it is true this website took me over 2 months to create in 2004, I spent two more months in 2009 revamping most of the pages, deciding to deviate slightly from the original layout. I am most proud of the effort I put in cropping all of the mug shots for the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. In its previous incarnation, it was simply too hard to match names with photos. Now, I hope you will agree, it is very clear and very easy. During this latter process, I discovered that there were several mug pages that either had missing names or too many names. If you go to the help page, maybe you can help me match the names with the people better. When I first designed this website back in 2004, most people had slow internet connections. To make pages load quickly, I scanned the photos at a low resolution. But if you wish to see a photo larger, you may simply click the photo, and it will be enlarged.
