I wonder if Jeanne Hooper remembers
congratulating me on my Graduation
day. She also wished me a happy
birthday. She's one of the few
people who even knew my birthday.
I am guessing that is probably a day she would
rather forget and that I am probably a boy
she would rather forget. I admit that
I did not treat Jeanne very well. I
knew she liked me, but what made it
hard for me was that I liked her best
friend, Kathy Drabik, and I didn't
want to do anything that might hurt
my chances of getting together with
Kathy -- although by this time
Kathy had probably written me off
and had given Jeanne the green light, so
to speak.
There was one day I remember especially
well when she came up to me at my locker,
but I totally ignored her. She started to
yell things outloud, and I actually remember
her exact words. Perhaps one day I will put those words
here. I know she used to talk to Ken
Yonkman about me because Ken lived across
the street.
I wonder if Jeanne remembers calling
me one day around Christmas 1972. I had
sent her a Christmas card to make up
for how I had treated her, saying, "stay
as sweet as you are." I told her that
I would keep in touch, but I never
talked to her again after that, as far
as I remember. Jeanne, I am deeply
sorry for how I treated you.
