I wonder if James remembers the day
we went for our army physical the same
day. It was shortly before Christmas in
1972. We took the train together downtown
and then endured about six or seven "stations"
for a complete army physical. The reason we
were scheduled the same day, I guess, is because
our birthday was on the same day: June 11, 1953.
Something interesting happened to both of
us that day. James fainted when he was
given a shot or when he was giving a blood
sample. I, meanwhile, had to stay at the
heart monitoring station where two men were
spending a great deal of time listening to
my heart with their stethoscopes. (Over 30 minutes!)
I remember that James liked to do a lot
of drag racing. I think at the time he
had something like six traffic tickets.
